Jean-Francois Boland: Ph. D. defense

Congratulations go to Jean-Francois Boland for successfully defending his Ph. D. dissertation "A Multi-Abstraction Level Platform for the Validation and Verification of Complex Digital Designs".

Towards completing his studies, Jean-Francois has made a number of groundbreaking contributions that have allowed seamless verification of complex systems, including those where specifications and part of the design are done in Matlab, Simulink, SystemC, to name a few. It is expected that such methodologies and tools will play a vital role in designing future microsystems.

His paper on "opening up" of Matlab for successfull verification in system-level design has earned him a Best Paper Award at the Design and Verification Conference and Exhibition, DVCon'05. This conference is unique in that it ensures active participation in its program of CEOs, CTOs or General Managers of all major Electronic Design Automation companies, commanding this vital and strategic business sector, worth over $30 Billion US.

Jean-Francois has already joined staff of Ecole de Technologie Superieure in Montreal, where we wish him successful research career.
